I've never posted one of these before, but I just had to share a great family activity for everyone. My family and I enjoy the hobby of "letterboxing" very much. Basically it is a huge "nationwide" treasure hunt. You go on line, find clues posted in your area and take off. We have been to so many places that we have never seen before, in our own area of town. Many of the locations are at parks, so we can find a letterbox and then play on the playground. Some of the hikes are long and some are just right there in front of you. Then, if you find that you really like the activities, you can hide your own boxes. The kids can help make the stamps, the journals, pick the locations and write the clues. It is SO much fun and there is a great community of "boxers" out there to communicate with. Check out these web sites for more information: http://www.letterboxing.org or http://www.atlasquest.comI forgot to say that this can be a very inexpensive hobby. If all you want to do is find boxes, you just need a journal and a personal stamp (which can be store bought if you choose - both of my kids are) Most of the cost for finding comes from gas! Right now that could be an issue. Sometimes there may be a park enterance fee. The clues should let you know if there is cost involved. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
